Fancy Dressed Teams

2018 Fancy Dressed Teams

In 2018 we’ve seen some great fancy dressed teams at our It’s A Knockout events up and down the UK. So we thought it would be ideal to share and highlight some of these with a 2018 Fancy Dressed teams web-blog. You’ll see from the brief selection of images here that some teams just turn up with as simple as a colour coordinated T-shirt affair, but many really go wayyyyyyy past this and really get into the fun spirit of It’s A Knockout and “go to town”.

Fancy Dressed Teams !

A popular theme for teams nowadays seems to be Justice League or Super Heroes,  this is easily achieved by a quick trip to eBay or Amazon. We look it when teams use a play on words which coincides with their teams makeup. A team of nurses dressed as Elves = National Elf Service (brilliant!). The three images above are “Rock Stars” (with various rock t-shirts), Going Banana’s (Minions) and then a construction company’s team at a charity event simply wearing their high-vis shirts.

Also remember, we give extra bonus “Fun Points” for teams that are in fancy dress. So get creating now ! Plus there are bonus points for designing and bringing your own Joker Card and a team mascot. We also suggest that teams bring their own gazebo to use as an HQ. This gives a place for a team to place all their effects etc for the day, and yes, bonus points for the best dressed team gazebo.

FAQ’s For Charity Teams

In this Blog we’ll answering some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) that teams tend to ask quite often about taking part in one of our It’s A Knockout’s. You may have been directed to this page by a charity event organiser to help them inform you of your up-and-coming Knockout day with us.

Hopefully in a logical order here are the Frequently Asked Questions we get asked.

How many people should a team consist of?

Our games are designed for teams of around ten people each. If there is ten in your team, then everyone in the team can take part in every game if they choose to. No one is forced to take part. If you have less than ten, then this is okay, but some people may have to have two “goes” on a game. We prefer mixed teams as they tend to be more “fun”.

FAQ's for Charity Teams

FAQ’s Charity Teams

What should we wear?

It’s best to wear something easy to move around in as you’ll be doing games that will involve inflatable obstacles. We encourage the teams to come in fancy dress as it adds extra fun into the day (and helps us identify the teams as well). However, no sharp edges please (Pirate themed teams take note!) and everyone must wear trainer type footwear on the games, no crocs, flip-flops or sandals. For ideas on fancy dress please read our Blog’s from 2017  Charity It’s A Knockout Teams 2017 and Fancy Dressed Charity It’s A Knockout Teams 2017

Can we get an idea of what the games involve?

We have different games on the sets of It’s A Knockout games. The actual games will depend on the set that the organiser has arranged. A game might involve one at a time the team collecting items through an inflatable obstacle, in which case the fastest collective time gets the most points. Or maybe the team have to transport something down a course with dropping it. To get a general idea of the games please visit our YouTube page to see some of the games in action. There are no hitting each other games or one-on-one games, it’s very much a team effort in a fun games.

FAQ’s Charity Teams

What do we need to bring?

There will probably be refreshments available on the day but you may wish to bring your own. Bring a towel or change of clothes as you will get wet on the games. And bring some supporters to cheer you on!

What does Playing Your Joker mean?

On one game you can “play a Joker”. You can choose a game to get awarded double points on. At the beginning of the day we’ll explain the games you can do this on. Obviously you’ll choose the game that suits your team the best. On this game you’ll get double-points no matter what score you get. We also award bonus points if you’ve designed and brought your own Joker Card. Many teams will get together before the day and get creating with the glue, glitter and streamers to do this.

What about a Team Gazebo?

Bringing a gazebo for your teams HQ is a good idea (check with the charity organiser). Having a team HQ gazebo give you somewhere to place you effects and bits-and-bobs and also acts as a shelter form the weather (sun and rain). Once more… BONUS POINTS available for a nicely decorated gazebo.

What time should we arrive?

Ideally an hour before the games start. Allow extra time if you’re erecting a team gazebo. Sometimes days can get busy with lots of people trying to park, unloading and getting themselves sorted for the day. Better to be early and soak up the day than arrive late and miss out on some of it. Some teams have been known to arrive early to probe us for insider information about the games to get an edge on the others.

What happens if it rains?

You get wet !!! Even on a dry sunny day, you’ll get wet !!! There’s no difference.

Please let us know if you are a charity organiser and have some other Frequently Asked Questions you think should be added to the above.

Santa Run 2017

Inflatable Santa Run 2017

Our inflatables are a great fun addition to a Santa Run course. They are best used when placed in a consecutive line, and as you can guess, we have a wide variety of different shaped inflatable obstacles that we can use. The images in this blog were taken as one such Run held in Cambridge this year where 250 fancy dressed Santa’s took part.

inflatable santa run

Our inflatables used as part of a Santa Run.

The course was laid out as part of a 5k run (which was twice round a laid out circuit). The “Santa’s” negotiated the inflatable course twice as part of their run which was held in aid of a local charity.

The course added a great visual element to the event. There was also the opportunity for a Santa Time Trail to find the “Fastest Santa” on the inflatable course. Many charities now hold these events which are a great fundraiser for local causes.

Charity It’s A Knockout Teams 2017

Reflecting over some of the many charity events that we’ve ran this year, and after browsing through the many-many photo’s we have collected along the way. Here is a short blog showing images of just some of the charity It’s A Knockout teams from a fundraising event held in Aberdeen back in August for the Friends of Anchor charity.

Charity It’s A Knockout Teams 2017

Around 60 teams took part in the fundraising event with there also being lots of other attractions and refreshment stands present for the viewing public. It’s always great when the teams come in fancy dress because not only is it funny and adds a fun visual element to the day and games, but also it helps us with the scoring of the games themselves.

We took our 12 game Gold Show to Hazlehead Park for the event and as you can see from the images, some of the teams had some great fancy dress costumes and ideas. It’s the fifth year we’ve ran the games for Friends of Anchor and it’s always been a great event and well supported affair.

Ideas for some Fancy Dressed Charity It’s A Knockout Teams 2017.

Over the last few months our It’s A knockout shows have been travelling the UK providing great fundraising events for charity days and town shows alike. Along the way, every now-and-then, we’ve collected a few pictures of the teams that have taken part. So for a bit of fun, we’re going to share some of the great costume themes that the teams have come along as. If you’re taking part in an It’s A Knockout, use them as inspiration for your knockout day out !

fancy dressed It's A Knockout teams

Fancy dressed It’s A Knockout teams.

We love when teams come along in fancy dress. It adds colour to a day and helps us with team identification and so the scoring of the games. Examples shown here include themes such as “Super Hero’s” where the team has simply gone to eBay or Amazon and simply bought some costume attire (or gone to Primark for some Onesies), and other teams where a little more thought and inventiveness has been entered into.

Fancy Dress It's A Knockout teams

More Its A Knockout Teams.

Some teams just simply get specially printed t-shirts made (maybe with a company name on them), and some go way-overboard and create wild and wacky fancy dress along with Joker Cards, Mascots and themed gazebos. Little touches for costumes such as tutu’s, grass skirts, funny wigs and accessories are easy to add.

The things to remember are…

1. It’s got to be functional, you’ll be climbing through inflatables and doing games.

2. No sharp edges please (sorry Pirate teams, but no swords).

3. No full face or full limb face-painting as it leaves coloured streaks on our It’s A Knockout inflatables (Sorry blue Smurf teams and yellow Minion teams).

Some Of Our New Inflatables for 2017

Here’s just a quick taste of some of our new inflatables for 2017.

Each year we update games and change games around so that the many charities and event organisers that use us year on year get some new and exciting games to play. In this blog we’ll be showing off some of our new inflatables, two that are going onto our Silver Show It’s A Knockout and one on our Bronze Show.

Wedge Inflatable Obstacle

The Silver Show “Golden Balls” game inflatable.

Our new Golden Ball’s Game on the Silver Show uses the Wedge Inflatable shown above. This game can be ran wet (preferred) or dry. This new game is great for all abilities including those with lower body mobility impairments.

Honey Tubes Inflatable

The new Honey Juice Game.

Our new Honey Juice Game on the Silver Show uses the Honey Tubes inflatable obstacle. This water collecting game uses a medium sized inflatable so that lots of “goes” each can be had by the teams.

Penguin game obstacle

The P-P-Penguin Game obstacle.

The P-P-Penguin Game (which uses are 8 feet high sumo penguin suits) has this new obstacle for 2017. Our Penguin Game has been mostly unchanged since it’s inception because it is so popular at our It’s A Knockout’s. For 2017 though we’ve spruced the game up with this obstacle.

If you would like updated games sheets for our 2017 sets of games, please contact us for details.

Our It’s A Knockout’s are ideal for charity fundraising events, town & village shows, public/company/family days and corporate entertainment. Please see our Packages Page for details.

All of our inflatables comply with BS EN 14960 the guidance for inflatables.

Team Gazebo Ideas

This blog follows on from an earlier one this year about Some fancy dress costume ideas for Its A Knockout teams. Another great idea for It’s A Knockout days is for the teams to bring a team gazebo with them to use as an HQ. This is great for a few reasons. Firstly, the teams have somewhere to place their bags etc. Secondly, if it rains, or it’s sunny and hot (fingers crossed), they have somewhere to shelter. And, thirdly, it adds a colourful spectacle for the day having an Olympic Village string of gazebos for the teams, especially if they are encouraged to decorate them as well, which is what this blog is now moving onto.

fancy-dressed gazebos

Some ideas for fancy-dressed team gazebos

Encouraging the teams to bring a gazebo that they fancy-dress up generates great pre-event team building as they will have to get together to discuss this along with their own fancy dress ideas. Usually, the two are combined as you can see from the images in this blog. It may be that a team dresses in grass skirts, call themselves “The Hawaii-5-0’s” and hang some bunting and balloons up around their gazebo. Or, maybe they go to town and make scenery and bring extra props to really give the gazebo a theme. We usually also give extra bonus points for the teams if they bring a team gazebo and dress it up.

Fancy-dress team gazebos

Some more fancy-dressed team gazebos

Some of the regular It’s A Knockout days we do for clients have turned into quite a competitive affair of trying to think up the best fancy dress and gazebo ideas. This adds to the team building element of such days. The ideas that our It’s A Knockout enjoy are if a team does a Great British Bake Off theme, because usually a lot of yummy cakes get offered to us as bribery ! (it doesn’t work, because we are impartial with the scoring of the games, but it’s always a nice gesture.)

team gazebo ideas

Team gazebo ideas for It’s A Knockout

Of course for charity fundraising events, an Olympic Village of fancy-dressed team gazebos is an excellent way to fill room free. One side of the It’s A knockout games arena can be used for the gazebo village which adds a really colourful display. Corporate teams can be told they can display their wears and company signs as well, giving them exposure as thanks for supporting the day. We hope that the images here have inspired some of the teams taking part in our It’s A Knockout events this year with ideas.

If you’re taking part in one of our It’s A Knockout’s this year, please send us photos’ of your fancy-dressed team gazebo, or upload it to our Facebook Page, we’d love to see them !

Gold Show It's A Knockout

The Gold Show It’s A knockout

Our Gold Show It’s A Knockout.

The 12 game Gold Show It’s A knockout is ideal for the bigger event. It needs about the size of a football pitch in room and is an impressive sight of games, inflatables, costumes and fun. We know that sometimes it’s hard to visualise what “you get for your money” so we’ve edited a short YouTube video to watch of the Gold Show games all set up and ready to go in Aberdeen from 2016.  Please click on the image below to watch the video.

As you can see form the video, most of the games use inflatables, some games are wet or bubble games, some are dry games, some use costumes, but all have fun-fun-fun !!!! The games list for the Gold Show includes Dizzy Dragons, Ring-A-Roses, Barrel of Laughs, Manic Mangles, Hungry Caterpillars, Pass The Dutchie, Robin Hood’s Merry Men, Castle Chaos, Scrambled, Slides & Suds, Animal Jigsaws and Fruit Loops.

Our Gold Show has 9 staff to set up the games, so can cope with 36 teams with it’s starting price (more can be added).  The video above was taken at an adult knockout day. Some games would of course be different for a children’s/Scouts/Guides/youth event.

Some Fancy Dress Costume Ideas for Its A Knockout Teams

Some fancy dress costume ideas for Its A Knockout teams for 2017 !

One thing that really adds some colour and fun to our It’s A Knockout’s is for the teams to fancy dress themselves for the occasion. As teams arrive for our days if the Knockout staff see a crowd of Pirates or Minions approaching we know we’re in for a fun days games. We introduced the fancy dress teams idea about 20 years ago and it does a couple of bonus things for the day.

fancy dressed teams

Some fancy dressed teams

First, it helps us with the scoring. “Pirates in lane one please, Minions in lane two and Brave Hearts in lane three” Another, is that it starts to hype the teams up before the day by making them get together and discuss and make costumes. We say “make”, but eBay tends to be the option for many teams looking for the quick fix or a trip to Primark for Onesie’s!

One thing to remember is no pins and sharp bits. So Pirates, you won’t be able to keep those swords on whilst doing the games, and the same goes for name tag pins or safety pins.

fancy dressed teams

More fancy dress teams

Here’s a list of the most common fancy dressed ideas. 118-118’s (above), Super Heroes, Pirates, Clowns, 80’s/Retro (get the dayglow tops out), Cops & Robbers, Nurses & Doctors (above), Baywatch (above), Where’s Wally..

Just remember, that you need to be able to take part in the games freely. It might tear clambering across the inflatables. And, it will get wet. As a team last year found out when they dressed as babies, complete with adult nappies, which then filled with water!

fancy dress teams

Fancy dress It’s A Knockout teams

One, extra thing. We do give extra It’s A Knockout points to the teams if they come in fancy dress. If you are attending a charity fundraising It’s A Knockout in 2017 ( maybe go to our Events Page ) get together and start brain storming now. For organisers, you can even suggest themes. Countries (Mad Mexican’s, Funny French, Jammy Jamaican’s) or Films (Gladiators, Keystone Cops, Marvel).

No doubt, we’ll add another post later this year with more fancy dress ideas from this years events.

A Minion fancy dressed charity It’s A Knockout team

A Bronze Show Charity It’s A Knockout

The Bronze Show is an ideal choice for charities to use for a charity fundraising event.

For charity fundraising events, the main object is of course to raise as much money as possible for a cause.

Our Bronze Show ticks many of the boxes for achieving this all in one go.

It’s very colourful and impressive at half the size of a football pitch.
# It has four large running across type inflatable games
# It has some great funny team building games.
# It has the ever-popular funny and visual bubble and dressing up games.
# It lasts about 3 hours (a break can be added in the middle before the wet games so the teams can spend money at any other stalls present).
# Although the starting price covers up to 12 teams taking part, more can be added at a very reasonable cost.

As with all our Knockouts it comes with a lot of extras:

# We have our own PA system so no need to get a sound system or DJ in.
# We supply prizes.
# We have our own generators so we don’t need power.
# We have Risk Assessments and Safety Documents to give peace of mind.

Charity Fundraising

An extra way to get much needed charity income is to invite companies to sponsor each of the games (e.g. £250 each). On the day these companies will get a game named after them, they will also be mentioned (and thanked) by our commentator compere, they can have signs around their game and even help to time keep on it.

A good way for the charity to fill space free is to have a teams village. Each team can be encouraged to bring a gazebo and use it as an HQ for the day. We can even award bonus points to the team with the best dressed gazebo. This means that (at least) one side of the arena will be a line of brightly decorated gazebos for the teams. Team gazebos also means that the teams have somewhere to shelter if it rains, or it is scorching hot (we can wish can’t we?).

Many charities also say to the teams that they will be awarded bonus points for raising over the amount asked to enter. This is a good way to incentivise teams to keep on fund raising for you rather than just the bottom entry fee you will be asking from them.

We get asked by charities “how much do charities normally set as the entrance fee?” This is a hard one. Some have set the entrance fee at a smaller amount such as £250 a team, some at a quite high figure of £1,000 a team. A good line we suggest is something along the idea of “It’s £500 to enter a team, so if there are 10 of you, that’s only £50 a head”.

In the Client Part of our website we have sample sponsorship forms you can use or be inspired by.
