Some Fancy Dress Costume Ideas for Its A Knockout Teams

Some fancy dress costume ideas for Its A Knockout teams for 2017 !

One thing that really adds some colour and fun to our It’s A Knockout’s is for the teams to fancy dress themselves for the occasion. As teams arrive for our days if the Knockout staff see a crowd of Pirates or Minions approaching we know we’re in for a fun days games. We introduced the fancy dress teams idea about 20 years ago and it does a couple of bonus things for the day.

First, it helps us with the scoring. “Pirates in lane one please, Minions in lane two and Brave Hearts in lane three” Another, is that it starts to hype the teams up before the day by making them get together and discuss and make costumes. We say “make”, but eBay tends to be the option for many teams looking for the quick fix or a trip to Primark for Onesie’s!

One thing to remember is no pins and sharp bits. So Pirates, you won’t be able to keep those swords on whilst doing the games, and the same goes for name tag pins or safety pins.

More fancy dress teams

Here’s a list of the most common fancy dressed ideas. 118-118’s (above), Super Heroes, Pirates, Clowns, 80’s/Retro (get the dayglow tops out), Cops & Robbers, Nurses & Doctors (above), Baywatch (above), Where’s Wally..

Just remember, that you need to be able to take part in the games freely. It might tear clambering across the inflatables. And, it will get wet. As a team last year found out when they dressed as babies, complete with adult nappies, which then filled with water!

One, extra thing. We do give extra It’s A Knockout points to the teams if they come in fancy dress. If you are attending a charity fundraising It’s A Knockout in 2017 ( maybe go to our Events Page ) get together and start brain storming now. For organisers, you can even suggest themes. Countries (Mad Mexican’s, Funny French, Jammy Jamaican’s) or Films (Gladiators, Keystone Cops, Marvel).

No doubt, we’ll add another post later this year with more fancy dress ideas from this years events.

A Bronze Show Charity It’s A Knockout

The Bronze Show is an ideal choice for charities to use for a charity fundraising event.

For charity fundraising events, the main object is of course to raise as much money as possible for a cause.

Our Bronze Show ticks many of the boxes for achieving this all in one go.

It’s very colourful and impressive at half the size of a football pitch.
# It has four large running across type inflatable games
# It has some great funny team building games.
# It has the ever-popular funny and visual bubble and dressing up games.
# It lasts about 3 hours (a break can be added in the middle before the wet games so the teams can spend money at any other stalls present).
# Although the starting price covers up to 12 teams taking part, more can be added at a very reasonable cost.

As with all our Knockouts it comes with a lot of extras:

# We have our own PA system so no need to get a sound system or DJ in.
# We supply prizes.
# We have our own generators so we don’t need power.
# We have Risk Assessments and Safety Documents to give peace of mind.

Charity Fundraising

An extra way to get much needed charity income is to invite companies to sponsor each of the games (e.g. £250 each). On the day these companies will get a game named after them, they will also be mentioned (and thanked) by our commentator compere, they can have signs around their game and even help to time keep on it.

A good way for the charity to fill space free is to have a teams village. Each team can be encouraged to bring a gazebo and use it as an HQ for the day. We can even award bonus points to the team with the best dressed gazebo. This means that (at least) one side of the arena will be a line of brightly decorated gazebos for the teams. Team gazebos also means that the teams have somewhere to shelter if it rains, or it is scorching hot (we can wish can’t we?).

Many charities also say to the teams that they will be awarded bonus points for raising over the amount asked to enter. This is a good way to incentivise teams to keep on fund raising for you rather than just the bottom entry fee you will be asking from them.

We get asked by charities “how much do charities normally set as the entrance fee?” This is a hard one. Some have set the entrance fee at a smaller amount such as £250 a team, some at a quite high figure of £1,000 a team. A good line we suggest is something along the idea of “It’s £500 to enter a team, so if there are 10 of you, that’s only £50 a head”.

In the Client Part of our website we have sample sponsorship forms you can use or be inspired by.

As you may also know, we have an Events Page where details of your event can be placed. Each week we get many enquiries from small groups of people wishing to take part in one of our It’s A Knockout’s. By placing details on our events page (and our Facebook Page) we can help you spread the word about your day.

Schools Its A Knockout

It’s A Knockout for Schools & Activity Days

Many attractions that are available for hire for school activity events just can’t cope with big numbers, or can’t cope with the temperamental British weather.  However an It’s A Knockout for Schools can easily cope with numbers over 200-300-400 and more, when run in the right manner and can also be run in all weathers or re-located to a schools sports hall. This makes it ideal for schools activity days.

Colourful Inflatable Games

It’s A Knockout for Schools uses games and inflatables that are colourful, fun and exciting. Also, the bigger the set of games, the more inflatables and adrenaline based it is. At Knockout Challenge we offer three sets of games, graded as Bronze Show, Silver Show and Gold Show. Each set with a better and more exciting set of games using more and bigger inflatables. As an example, our “Bronze” set of games needs just under half a football pitch in room, a “Silver Show” just over half a football pitch, and a “Gold Show” needing a whole pitch.

Activity Day Timings

Knockout can fit into a morning or afternoon school timetable and can even be run in both, with one set of children (or year group) in the morning and a different set in the afternoon.

Children’s It’s a Knockout Teams

There are several ways for the children to be split into teams. The games tend to be designed for teams of around ten with each game using three teams per heat. Getting the children into these teams can be done as follows.

  1. Forms. If a form has around 30 children it can be split into three sub-teams of around 10 in each, with one sub-team in each of the three lanes for a game. The “times” or scores for the three sub-teams are then added together to give a “form time” for that game. The advantage of this is that the form tutor can remain with their class whilst they go from game to game.
  2. Houses. If a house system is being used, groups of ten for each House can play against each other.
  3. Or you can let them group themselves into teams.

Either way we have a points system for the games that we use and each team will have a score card with their scores on at the end which can be used for an inter-house competition etc.

Everyone in every team, gets the chance to take part in every game.  No one gets left out. However, individuals can opt out at any time, it just means that someone else does their go for them. We have wristbands available if requested to help with team identity.

School Fundraising

Why not use the games as a means of fundraising for the school or a chosen cause or charity?  Each child could be given a Sponsorship Form to pass around family and friends. If each child was asked to raise £5 or £10 what project or cause could your school use this for?

School It’s A Knockout Format

At its full capacity if all the games are active simultaneously, the games arena works like a giant games carousel with teams going from game to game to game. If you imagine the games arena being like a large clock face, with games on each hour hand (as an example) and with the teams positioned on each game. Once a set of three teams have “completed” a game, they then move onto the next game in the rotation (and around the clock).

Inflatable Games Format

Each of our games for It’s A Knockout for Schools has three lanes (red, blue & green), therefore three teams are active on a game. However, we place up to six teams on each game. The first three teams do the game, then the second three, then the six move onto the next game. This gives a sort of “game-on, game-off” method with some time doing the game, followed by a little rest and cheering time.

As an example of a large games/activity day, our Gold Show, which has twelve games, with six teams on each, can easily cope with 720 pupils (if in teams of ten). A games circuit like this could last from two to three hours (or more), but the times can be altered to suit.

Water, Bubble Games and The Weather

Usually knockout has wet and bubble games. Dry games can be run if desired, and the games can carry on even if it’s raining. Unlike other activities that you can hire, “It’s A Knockout” will carry on come rain or shine. If you have a sports hall, it can also be ran indoors. The decision can be taken upon our arrival as to “indoors or outdoors”.

An indoor It’s A Knockout

If you would like some wet games, we only need access to a hosepipe on arrival (laid on to the games area, and until the start time). Two to three hundred gallons of water (about 15 dustbins worth) is all we need for a fantastic effect.

Great Atmosphere, Great Games

We have our own sound system and play party music whilst the games are being played out. Plus with the commentary and all the noise the children are making, “Knockout” makes a great entertaining and colourful event.

Team Building for Schools and Youth groups

It’s A Knockout is not just for adults! It’s a great way of getting youth groups and schools together for a bit of fun and even some fundraising!

Children’s teams on our Mini Knockout

Team-building is important to help members of youth groups and teams get to know each other and build confidence, trust and encourages team bonding. Working in groups is fun and and most of the time the kids don’t even realize that they’re taking part in a team building event.

Everybody, in every team, takes part in every game, so a  Knockout Challenge allows even the more shy and less able children to participate in the activities.

A Knockout Challenge for children can be incorporated into an adult day, or can be a whole day just for the children.
