Our Silver Show It’s A Knockout 2017

Our Silver Show is ideal for medium and large events. It is available in two versions, 8 games, which will last about 4 hours and also as a ten game version. The image below shows the eight game version from 2015.

The Silver Show It’s A Knockout games arena.

The Silver Show is more inflatable based than the Bronze Show.  As an example, the inflatable slide game is bigger on this set of games. Because we need more staff to set up this bigger set of games, it automatically covers up to 18 teams talking part. Other teas can be added. However, after 36 teams we would suggest moving up to the Gold Show.

Some Silver Show games.

The eight game version needs about half the size of a football pitch in room and is usually ran in two halves. The dry games in Part 1, then the wet or bubbles games in Part 2. Like all our Knockout’s, everyone, in every team, gets the opportunity to take part in every game. No one is left out.

Ran as an exciting team event and as a great spectator attraction, the Silver Show makes an impressive addition to large charity fundraising events, family fund days, or entertainment events.

School Activity Days and Youth Events.

Our Silver Show is also great for school activity days and youth events. For these days we change the games a little and make them more adrenaline based. Many schools use our games for end of year activity days, fresher days, incentive and reward events. The most students that our Silver Show can cope with in a single session is 480. However, two sessions can be ran in a day (one AM, one PM) meaning that a school with a thousand children can get everyone involved in the fun and excitement.

Knockout Challenge offer different scales of games for events. From our Mini Knockout for small team building type days to our Gold Show for large events of 36 teams or more. Please visit our Packages Page for details.

Inflatables And Safety At Events

In this blog, we will be talking about the inflatables that we use on our It’s A knockout events. However, as we sometimes get asked about inflatables and safety in general, this will also touch on a few points for anyone hiring bouncy castles or obstacles and a brief explanation of the “Laws” (or official guidance) etc relating to inflatables in general.

Inflatable Obstacles & the “Law”

Our It’s A Knockout inflatables are made in the UK to a standard called BS EN 14960. This 54 page EN Standard sets out how inflatable play equipment should be made. It includes details of the materials to be used, the step up and down height for getting on and off them, potential falling off heights, a calculation for the number of anchor points to be included and a lot more such as wind speeds (which I’ll come to later), the angle at which the pegs or stakes to tie down should be hammered in at, plus the size of the stakes and the roping off a safety area around them.

bronze show inflatables

The Bronze Show inflatables arena

Before any inflatable is open to the public for the first time it should be subject to inspections and checks to confirm its design and manufacture comply with the requirements of the BS EN 14960 standard.

For operators and hirers, there is also a useful seven page guide called the Safe Use & Operation Of Inflatable Play Equipment, Including Bouncy Castles. It can be found at the ADIPS website. This guide was originally of HSE – Health & Safety Executive – origin and is still considered good guidance for the operators of inflatables.

The HSE also stipulates that all inflatables should be tested annually, see the HSE website for details. This, it says, should be carried out by a competent person. To satisfy that we have fulfilled our duty to this, our inflatables are ADIPS tested, the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme. This is one of only two schemes recognized by HSE, the other being PIPA.

Our clients can go to the ADIPS website and “Check a DOC” – Declaration of Operational Compliance – to see if an inflatable has a valid test and can also see an image of the inflatable in question.  The annual test checks for, amongst other things, deterioration of the inflatable, the stitching of the panels, air loss (so it holds its “bounciness”), and the integrity of the anchor points.
Likewise, for bouncy castles registered with PIPA, a PIPA tag (or test) can be checked on their website. This is a reassuring process for clients and event organisers to able to independently check that a document hasn’t been fraudulently concocted.

Safety Mats

The EN Standard calls the area where safety mats (or sometimes called “Crash mats”) should be placed around an inflatable as an impact area. These are primarily identified as, but not exclusive to, intended entry and exit points. Our games are designed to predict a manner of participation from the Its A Knockout teams. This helps us to effectively risk manage the games. The EN standard states that at least a 1 inch mat be used, we use 1.5 inch ones for extra care. The inflatable manufacturer or inflatable tester may specifically advise the position of where mats should be placed. This would then be referred to in a Risk Assessment.

Wind Speeds

People ask us whether the rain affects our It’s A Knockout days. Well no, not really, instead of us having to keep a slide wet for an It’s A Knockout game so people can slide down it, Mother Nature is doing it for us. However, wind is a problem. Inflatables made under the EN standard are safe up to Beaufort Scale 6 (which is 25 to 30 miles per hour). This is defined as “Large branches in motion. Whistling heard in telegraph wires. Umbrellas difficult to use”. At this point (25 mph) the use of all inflatables must stop.

We have wind meters on each set of games that we use to measure speeds. Our newest ones emit an alarm sound when the speed reaches 25 mph. At the beginning of each event, we point the wind-meter out to everyone present and explain its purpose. We also check the predicted wind speed online at the start of the day to see if wind will be a consideration.

Further advice and reading can be found on our About Us page.
Event organisers should also refer to the HSE website for Running an event safely.
Our clients can log-in to the Client Part of our website and view our Risk Assessments, Safety Certificates, Health & Safety Policy and Staff Training.

Some Of Our New Inflatables for 2017

Here’s just a quick taste of some of our new inflatables for 2017.

Each year we update games and change games around so that the many charities and event organisers that use us year on year get some new and exciting games to play. In this blog we’ll be showing off some of our new inflatables, two that are going onto our Silver Show It’s A Knockout and one on our Bronze Show.

Wedge Inflatable Obstacle

The Silver Show “Golden Balls” game inflatable.

Our new Golden Ball’s Game on the Silver Show uses the Wedge Inflatable shown above. This game can be ran wet (preferred) or dry. This new game is great for all abilities including those with lower body mobility impairments.

Honey Tubes Inflatable

The new Honey Juice Game.

Our new Honey Juice Game on the Silver Show uses the Honey Tubes inflatable obstacle. This water collecting game uses a medium sized inflatable so that lots of “goes” each can be had by the teams.

Penguin game obstacle

The P-P-Penguin Game obstacle.

The P-P-Penguin Game (which uses are 8 feet high sumo penguin suits) has this new obstacle for 2017. Our Penguin Game has been mostly unchanged since it’s inception because it is so popular at our It’s A Knockout’s. For 2017 though we’ve spruced the game up with this obstacle.

If you would like updated games sheets for our 2017 sets of games, please contact us for details.

Our It’s A Knockout’s are ideal for charity fundraising events, town & village shows, public/company/family days and corporate entertainment. Please see our Packages Page for details.

All of our inflatables comply with BS EN 14960 the guidance for inflatables.

Force Cancer Charity It’s A Knockout 2017

Recruiting of teams of the Force Cancer Charity It’s A Knockout 2017 is underway.

The Force Cancer Charity It’s A Knockout fundraising event this year takes place at Topsham Rugby Cub on Saturday 2nd September 2107. Our twelve game Gold Show will be entertaining the teams again this year.

About FORCE

FORCE Cancer Charity is based in Exeter, Devon. They believe that anyone diagnosed with cancer deserves the best possible treatment and professional support close to home. Since 1987 the charity has been funding local research and buying equipment to improve patient care. In 2004 they opened a Cancer Support and Information Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. The Centre is open every weekday 9:30-4:30 (Wednesdays 6:30) for people needing physical, emotional, psychological and practical support at a difficult time in their lives. They also offer support and information sessions once a week in the Devon towns of Tiverton and Okehampton. All their services are free of charge. FORCE needs to raise more than £1.2million every year to maintain the services it offers. That money comes from legacies, donations, the FORCE charity shop and from fundraising events.

It’s A Knockout Fundraiser.

In 2015 FORCE and Knockout Challenge Limited staged a fantastically successful event at Powderham Castle where 72 teams tackled the full Gold Show contest in brilliant sunshine. The day was such a massive hit that a second event ran in 2016, this time at Topsham Rugby Club and in pouring rain. The soggy conditions didn’t detract from another incredible day and the two Knockout Challenge events have raised around £40,000 for FORCE.

A Bronze Show Charity It’s A Knockout

The Bronze Show is an ideal choice for charities to use for a charity fundraising event.

For charity fundraising events, the main object is of course to raise as much money as possible for a cause.

Our Bronze Show ticks many of the boxes for achieving this all in one go.

It’s very colourful and impressive at half the size of a football pitch.
# It has four large running across type inflatable games
# It has some great funny team building games.
# It has the ever-popular funny and visual bubble and dressing up games.
# It lasts about 3 hours (a break can be added in the middle before the wet games so the teams can spend money at any other stalls present).
# Although the starting price covers up to 12 teams taking part, more can be added at a very reasonable cost.

As with all our Knockouts it comes with a lot of extras:

# We have our own PA system so no need to get a sound system or DJ in.
# We supply prizes.
# We have our own generators so we don’t need power.
# We have Risk Assessments and Safety Documents to give peace of mind.

Charity Fundraising

An extra way to get much needed charity income is to invite companies to sponsor each of the games (e.g. £250 each). On the day these companies will get a game named after them, they will also be mentioned (and thanked) by our commentator compere, they can have signs around their game and even help to time keep on it.

A good way for the charity to fill space free is to have a teams village. Each team can be encouraged to bring a gazebo and use it as an HQ for the day. We can even award bonus points to the team with the best dressed gazebo. This means that (at least) one side of the arena will be a line of brightly decorated gazebos for the teams. Team gazebos also means that the teams have somewhere to shelter if it rains, or it is scorching hot (we can wish can’t we?).

Many charities also say to the teams that they will be awarded bonus points for raising over the amount asked to enter. This is a good way to incentivise teams to keep on fund raising for you rather than just the bottom entry fee you will be asking from them.

We get asked by charities “how much do charities normally set as the entrance fee?” This is a hard one. Some have set the entrance fee at a smaller amount such as £250 a team, some at a quite high figure of £1,000 a team. A good line we suggest is something along the idea of “It’s £500 to enter a team, so if there are 10 of you, that’s only £50 a head”.

In the Client Part of our website we have sample sponsorship forms you can use or be inspired by.

As you may also know, we have an Events Page where details of your event can be placed. Each week we get many enquiries from small groups of people wishing to take part in one of our It’s A Knockout’s. By placing details on our events page (and our Facebook Page) we can help you spread the word about your day.

Schools Its A Knockout

It’s A Knockout for Schools

It’s A Knockout for Schools & Activity Days

Many attractions that are available for hire for school activity events just can’t cope with big numbers, or can’t cope with the temperamental British weather.  However an It’s A Knockout for Schools can easily cope with numbers over 200-300-400 and more, when run in the right manner and can also be run in all weathers or re-located to a schools sports hall. This makes it ideal for schools activity days.

It’s A Knockout for schools

Colourful Inflatable Games

It’s A Knockout for Schools uses games and inflatables that are colourful, fun and exciting. Also, the bigger the set of games, the more inflatables and adrenaline based it is. At Knockout Challenge we offer three sets of games, graded as Bronze Show, Silver Show and Gold Show. Each set with a better and more exciting set of games using more and bigger inflatables. As an example, our “Bronze” set of games needs just under half a football pitch in room, a “Silver Show” just over half a football pitch, and a “Gold Show” needing a whole pitch.

Activity Day Timings

Knockout can fit into a morning or afternoon school timetable and can even be run in both, with one set of children (or year group) in the morning and a different set in the afternoon.

Children’s It’s a Knockout Teams

There are several ways for the children to be split into teams. The games tend to be designed for teams of around ten with each game using three teams per heat. Getting the children into these teams can be done as follows.

  1. Forms. If a form has around 30 children it can be split into three sub-teams of around 10 in each, with one sub-team in each of the three lanes for a game. The “times” or scores for the three sub-teams are then added together to give a “form time” for that game. The advantage of this is that the form tutor can remain with their class whilst they go from game to game.
  2. Houses. If a house system is being used, groups of ten for each House can play against each other.
  3. Or you can let them group themselves into teams.

Either way we have a points system for the games that we use and each team will have a score card with their scores on at the end which can be used for an inter-house competition etc.

Everyone in every team, gets the chance to take part in every game.  No one gets left out. However, individuals can opt out at any time, it just means that someone else does their go for them. We have wristbands available if requested to help with team identity.

Kids Inflatable game

Schools It’s A Knockout

School Fundraising

Why not use the games as a means of fundraising for the school or a chosen cause or charity?  Each child could be given a Sponsorship Form to pass around family and friends. If each child was asked to raise £5 or £10 what project or cause could your school use this for?

School It’s A Knockout Format

At its full capacity if all the games are active simultaneously, the games arena works like a giant games carousel with teams going from game to game to game. If you imagine the games arena being like a large clock face, with games on each hour hand (as an example) and with the teams positioned on each game. Once a set of three teams have “completed” a game, they then move onto the next game in the rotation (and around the clock).

Inflatable Games Format

Each of our games for It’s A Knockout for Schools has three lanes (red, blue & green), therefore three teams are active on a game. However, we place up to six teams on each game. The first three teams do the game, then the second three, then the six move onto the next game. This gives a sort of “game-on, game-off” method with some time doing the game, followed by a little rest and cheering time.

As an example of a large games/activity day, our Gold Show, which has twelve games, with six teams on each, can easily cope with 720 pupils (if in teams of ten). A games circuit like this could last from two to three hours (or more), but the times can be altered to suit.

Water, Bubble Games and The Weather

Usually knockout has wet and bubble games. Dry games can be run if desired, and the games can carry on even if it’s raining. Unlike other activities that you can hire, “It’s A Knockout” will carry on come rain or shine. If you have a sports hall, it can also be ran indoors. The decision can be taken upon our arrival as to “indoors or outdoors”.

An indoor It’s A Knockout

If you would like some wet games, we only need access to a hosepipe on arrival (laid on to the games area, and until the start time). Two to three hundred gallons of water (about 15 dustbins worth) is all we need for a fantastic effect.

Great Atmosphere, Great Games

We have our own sound system and play party music whilst the games are being played out. Plus with the commentary and all the noise the children are making, “Knockout” makes a great entertaining and colourful event.

Team Building for Schools and Youth groups

It’s A Knockout is not just for adults! It’s a great way of getting youth groups and schools together for a bit of fun and even some fundraising!

Children’s teams on our Mini Knockout

Team-building is important to help members of youth groups and teams get to know each other and build confidence, trust and encourages team bonding. Working in groups is fun and and most of the time the kids don’t even realize that they’re taking part in a team building event.

Everybody, in every team, takes part in every game, so a  Knockout Challenge allows even the more shy and less able children to participate in the activities.

A Knockout Challenge for children can be incorporated into an adult day, or can be a whole day just for the children.
